Gradually the night fell blacker ; it was all i could do to guide myself even roughly towards my destination ; the double hill behind me and the spy - glass on my right hand loomed faint and fainter ; the stars were few and pale ; and in the low ground where i wandered i kept tripping among bushes and rolling into sandy pits 夜色越来越深，我只能大致向我的目的地前进。我背后的双峰山和我右侧的望远镜山轮廓愈来愈模糊，星星稀少而又暗淡。我走在低地上，常被灌木绊倒，滚进沙坑里。
